We are able to keep costs low, thanks to the contribution of a small staff and 100+ volunteers. Volunteers serve on committees and the board of directors; staff the Clothes Closet; contribute their time and talents to fundraising events; and donate expertise in business, finance, law, technology, mental health and the skilled trades. We maintain partnerships with four private-practice therapists and six universities to offer Clinical Internships for 18-23 graduate students in counseling and social work a year.
Last year professional volunteers contributed over 17,000 hours, representing over 150 percent of the agency's annual budget.
Our volunteers do not simply enhance our efforts. They, along with clients and staff, have a hand in shaping our organization. This shared leadership model yields an incredibly dedicated, motivated team of staff and volunteers. The positive energy created by this team is palpable throughout The Center. Clients and donors alike comment on it.
During the school year, Program and Volunteer Coordinator Joan Kauffman fields inquiries about volunteer openings. She can be reached at: joan@womenscentersemi.org
