Community Counseling

Additional counseling resources in our community

Substantial gaps exist in the behavioral health safety net, particularly for uninsured or under-insured individuals. However, the Southeastern Michigan community offers a number of options so that mental health maintenance is not only possible but a priority.

In addition to The Women’s Center’s 3 counseling programs, some organizations and therapists may offer reduced fees upon request.

Anything less than the standard fee is “sliding-scale.” In our area, a standard 50-minute fee for counselors, social workers, and PhD psychologists is $125 to $175. For psychiatrists (physicians with additional mental health expertise) costs can run as high as $170 to $250 per session.

Sensitive to the costs of mental health care; we have tried to limit our resources to the least costly options.

For immediate help, text or call crisis lines or 24/7 mental health and substance use treatment access line, CARES Team, Washtenaw County, 734.544.3050.

Testing is a labor-intensive process and can be expensive. Lower-cost testing is available at the following university centers. Due to high demand, the waitlists are often long.

    For-profit testing

We hesitate to recommend for-profit services because they are generally out of reach, financially, for our service populations. We include them here because testing is a hard-to-find service with waitlists of months to >year.
